How
did I become a Party Writer?
The
seeds of Party Writer were actually planted over 40 years
ago when I was a very little girl in New York City. In
the 1950s and 1960s, my dad Joe Nadler made his living
as a C.P.A., but his true passion was writing poems and
parodies and reciting them for “weddings, anniversaries,
bar mitzvahs, and all catered affairs,” as he would
colorfully describe. When he arrived at professional meetings,
his use of rhyme and wit turned boring meetings into motivating
and memorable gatherings. I inherited his love of writing,
singing, and performing. In addition, I’ve always
loved “putting on a show!"

In
my college years, I wrote diaries of verse. My philosophy was
“A poem a day, keeps the psychiatrist away.”
Envision revision to make the decision
No stopping or clearance
From ones so much older
who say they are better
Who act like they’re bolder
Imagine what action, no rule or infraction
to stop you from doing or doing to stop you.
What a reaction.
Is this satisfaction?
Some
of my poems were published in poetry collection “Songs on
the Wind”, catalogued in the Library of Congress ISBN 1-56167-265-3

|
| So,
after college I made the decision to follow my dream. I
become a professional vocalist, and teamed up with pianist/writer
Mary M. Morgan and formed “The StepSisters,”
a musical/comedy duo. For several years we traveled extensively,
met fantastic people, and co-wrote and performed original
songs including It Happens©, Vaudeville Man©,
and A Birthday Song©, and our crowd pleaser parodies
such as “Tall People,” and “If I Were
a Rich Girl.”
In time I satisfied my wanderlust and
returned to Boston to “settle down.”

|
| Fortunately,
I met up with other talented musicians Charlie Sorrento and
Joe Mason who wanted to put together a group to perform regularly
in local venues.
My band “Lesly Winters & Friends”
began as a club group and spent many hours writing and recording
original songs.
|
|
| As
we matured, we expanded our repertoire to include jazz, standards,
and audience favorites. We
started performing more at restaurants, private clubs, and
hotels.
As our
business shifted more into playing at weddings, corporate
events, and other parties, I became known for adding personalized
lyrics to first dances, “oldies” reunion songs
and anniversary favorites.
|
|
My role expanded into emceeing, hiring other musicians and
DJs, and event planning for over 300 weddings and functions.
My job description now included vocalist, band leader, emcee,
music contractor and party planner. For over five years Lesly
& Friends was their official function band and I was the
music coordinator for the Lenox Hotel, Boston, MA. In addition,
I performed throughout New England at various hotels, restaurants
and function facilities, and private clubs (e.g., Park Plaza,
Sonesta Hotel, Fairmont Copley Plaza, and the Harvard Club). |

Although
I loved the spotlight, it was difficult performing after my
second son was born. I chose to work more conventional hours,
developed computer and graphic design expertise and expanded
professionally in the areas of public relations, meeting planning,
fundraising and community events. I was the Director and Mistress
of Ceremonies of the televised summer concert series in Randolph.
I also participated in the 60 mile, 3-day Avon Breast Cancer
Walk. Here I am at the finish line! I worked in Development
& Alumni Relations for Milton Academy and continued event
planning, creating invitations and class reunion books and
personalizing poems and songs for birthdays, anniversaries
and special occasions. |

At
Milton Academy, their motto is “Dare to be true.”
And I decided to take the challenge. Goodbye Milton, hello
PartyWriter! Here is an excerpt from my farewell poem to my
Milton friends.
|
In August of 2000
A job offer came to me
To join the faculty and staff
of Milton Academy
I
knew there would be challenges
From the very start
To work in an environment
Where everyone was smart!
|
In
another life I hope to be
A boarder here at Milton
With the brains of Madame Curie
And the looks of Paris Hilton!
The
time has come to try new things
And I place the blame on you
After 4+ years of hearing it -
Now I’m daring to be true!
|
These
years just seemed to fly by
It’s like I woke up from a coma
On this, my graduation day
Did I get the School diploma?
Thanks
for all your kindness
I hope some folks will keep in touch
The Community here is quite unique
And I’ll miss you very much! |
|
|
| I
have spent my life developing my creative skills into a full
time career. Over the years I have worn many professional
hats, but creative writing has always been my number one passion!
I am honored to share special times in your life by helping
transform your own personal thoughts and expressions into
a cherished and life-long gift.
Lyrically yours,
Lesly
